Dhalsim

This is another Sketch 2 Death deal. We're all doing Street Fighter characters and Dhalsim is my contribution. Check out the blog to see what everyone else comes up with.

So what are YOU doing tonight?

Are you sitting at home being a giant loser with nothing to do on this lovely Friday night? Well, if you're in the Columbus area, I've got some last minute plans (the best kind of plans) for you! If you want to have some fun (and your idea of fun is standing in a room of awkward Illustration majors in collared shirts) you should come to the CCAD Art of Illustration show on the second floor of the Canzani Center. If you're not in Columbus or think you have something more important to do tonight, don't worry your delusional little head, the show will be up through April 17th. So come support some very talented artists and give your eyes something yummy to gawk at.
If you're a follower of the blog, you may recognize these two pieces from me...or maybe not...WHO KNOWS!

Winter Olympics 2

This is part two of the series of illustrations I did about the 2010 Winter Olympics.
So who remembers the winter olympics? Anyone?
Well, I assure you that at one point, this was a pretty topical piece about the Pittsburgh Penguins being split up between different countries' hockey teams during the games. As a fun side note, if you attempt to put a human face on a penguin's body, it will haunt your dreams for months.

Donate!

Let me just say that I STRONGLY encourage people to donate to worthy charities and help the less fortunate. I would also like to say that you should do research and know where your money is going, otherwise you could wind up supporting something like this...whatever this is.

On a side note, who just throws a perfectly good ice cream cone on the floor? Outrageous!

Afternoon Tea

Not to be confused with high tea or morning tea...
clearly.

Billy Goats Gruff

This is an illustration for one of my favorite folktales that was done sometime last semester. Something about an ogre and goat involved in life and death negotiations is just delightful.

Not-So-Daily Sketch: 'scuse me

Another Sketch 2 Death deal. Some finished work should be headed blog-wards soon.

Winter Olympics 1

I recently got an assignment to do two illustrations about the 2010 Winter Olympics and this is the first one. The concept was to show Shaun White in a way that would apply to a young crowd. So here he is (noodle limbs and all) showing up some wannabes in the Canadian mountains. Stay tuned for part two (IT HAS PENGUINS!)

Edward Sharkhands

For some reason this makes me think about the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry cheats on his barber with his barber's nephew. "What are you gonna do on the toilet with sharks for hands?!?!"

The Cap'n

I have an oddly large amount of childhood memories of Captain Crunch cereal. I remember being sick with a fever and I couldn't sleep so I got to eat Peanut Butter Crunch in the middle of the night (which seemed so cool for some reason) and I remember going to my grandparents house around Christmas and my grandmother would make a special note to buy Christmas Crunch for my brother and me to eat when we woke up. Anyway, the point (I guess) is that there are few breakfast foods that I treasure more than the Cap'n (so close, Scrapple), so when I got a class assignment to design the back of a cereal box, it was an easy choice (suck it, Frankenberry).

Oh and the contest and online game mentioned on the box are made up so don't bother looking for them.

Something else I should probably note, it's been 20 days since my last post. I'm not happy about that. A large chunk of it is because my computer was in the shop, but most of it is because I've been lazy. So sometime in the near future I'm hoping to get back into the swing I was in over the summer and posting something new on here every other day (I'm not about to promise a sketch-a-day deal because I don't want to flat out lie to you...fib maybe, but not lie). So be on the lookout for that.

RODEO!

Our first project for Thom Glick's Illustration Workshop class was to create a character based on the idea of "rodeo" and this was mine. You can check out what everyone else in the class came up with HERE.

We were later told that we will have to use this figures in a piece about the situation in Haiti...I'm so very, very screwed.
